San Diego Country Fair 2016 Art Entry

If you call Southern California “home” like I do I’m sure you’re aware the Fair comes to town every summer at the Del Mar Race Track. I absolutely love the Fair! I thoroughly enjoy over indulging on the deep fried foods, riding the rides and taking in the attractions. One of the items on my must do fair visit list is checking out the art section.

fair collageI love how there are so many different art forms represented! From the gorgeous wood working, to photography and to my personal favorite- Fine Art! Theres really something for everyone to enjoy! Every year I’ll walk through the exhibits and say to myself “Next year I want to be on that wall.” Well this year I actually did it!

I entered 3 pieces into the San Diego Fair.

I was super nervous about the judging but I figured at least this will help me get more comfortable about putting my art out there! I haven’t entered any competitions or shows since high school. I tend to be really shy about showing people my art. I’m not really sure why- I think its because I freeze up when I get attention. People that know me would not describe me as shy, quite the opposite probably. But theres something about making something with your hands that is powerful and scary. I really do put a lot of myself in what I create, or maybe its the fear of rejection, maybe its something else. Either way I am trying to get passed it! So this is the year I enter my art into some competitions!

I am pleased that 2 of the 3 entered pieces came home with ribbons! While I did not place in either of the categories I entered, I did receive a People’s Choice Award & an Donated Award from the California Center for the Arts, Escondido. Which I couldn’t not be more thankful for!!!

Picking up where I left off…

Being a “millennial” (barely), means I am supposed to be tech savvy, right? Unfortunately for me that is not so much the case. I’ve been told over and over I should blog and link it to my website to boost traffic. That sounds all gravy but the idea of blogging is little daunting to someone like me.

I have tons of friends who have this whole “web presence” thing on lock (see, I know some hip lingo *insert the use of “Fleek” for an extra 10 Hip points.) Some of my friends have fashion/photography blogs and instgram profiles that look like someone paid a fancy marketing company to design and maintain them. I scroll past my own sisters instgram multiple times before I realize it isn’t an add for Urban outfitters.

I believe that some people are just better with this stuff than I am. Maybe its because I haven’t given it a real try but I don’t think that is true. I had a blog while I was in college, mostly because I had to for several of my classes. While I do enjoy it I have to wonder who really reads the ramblings of 20 something just trying to figure out if “the messes” I make have any real meaning?

That being said- here I go again! Giving the vast internet another go! I don’t know who you are, but if you’re reading this, I hope you like it! Any thoughts on topics you would like to read about?

Just a heads up, chances are this blog is going to be a place for me to ramble about other artists or types of art I find inspiring (aka vastly overwhelming) or maybe it will simply be about the latest Game of Thrones episode (that season finale tho!)

In the meantime please comment, let me know your thoughts! I don’t want to be left alone with mine 😉
